Audiences say he doesn’t just sing – he embodies each song, bringing a fresh approach and new energy to his repertoire of unexpected songs, from jazz standards, to jump jive and blues, to obscure but intriguing pop and rock surprises. No genre is off-limits. His performances resonate with varied audiences, not just jazz enthusiasts. Mason engages crowds through swinging show stoppers, funky foot stompers and gut-busting blues – then turns on a dime and delivers heartfelt ballads with unrivaled intimacy and tenderness. He’s a standout performer in the vibrant Pacific Northwest jazz community.

Mason grew up surrounded by a rich tapestry of musical influences, including folk, R&B, classic rock and crooners. He channeled those influences, along with a playful sense of humor and an appreciation of vocal jazz masters such as Ella Fitzgerald and Bing Crosby, into his earliest musical adventures. Early in his career he fronted both acoustic and electric groups in Dallas, Texas.  During that time he also performed solo, exploring the singer-songwriter experience for several years.

Upon arriving in Seattle in the late 2010’s, efforts to connect with local musicians led directly to his discovery of the vibrant and extensive local jazz scene. He’s quickly established himself as a favorite collaborator and a creative force to be reckoned with.

Sandy Mason has a unique talent: a mature, yet youthful voice that’s always ready for experimentation and adventure. Performances feature inventive phrasing, acrobatic scatting and impeccable intonation.  Whether with a rhythm section or with a larger ensemble, his voice brings clarity and passion to every song – delivering gravitas and warmth to familiar ballads or playfulness and a fresh attitude to unexpected material.
